What to do when the electric winch is broken? - Tips and solutions.

The electric winch, like other winches, is subject to significant loads during operation. Especially when the device is subjected to continuous work, it may become damaged, as it should be used intermittently. To ensure that the electric winch operates efficiently for a longer period, it should be regularly checked by a mechanic/service, depending on the manner of use, intensity, and installation. This should be done at least once a year, but ideally several times a year. Sometimes, water may enter the interior of the winch instead of lubricating grease, which can lead to premature wear. Regular servicing will help prevent such an unfavorable situation. When purchasing, special attention should be paid even to minor details, as they often determine durability. Seemingly insignificant components can prove to be important. But what should you do when you notice strange symptoms with your electric winch?

**Electric winch not working**

As described above, it is possible that water has entered the electric winch, causing a motor failure or permanent damage. In this case, it is best to contact an authorized service center for evaluation of the failure and possible motor replacement. If the motor can be started, first try to dry it thoroughly. Then, operate without load in short bursts. This will help dry the wire rope as well. Another cause may be improperly connected electrical wires or the control remote. Check whether everything has been connected correctly. If not, connect it properly. Another possible issue could be a relay failure, which is why the motor has stopped working. Simply check the wires leading to the relay. Sometimes, it happens that the connections at the motor are loose, and they need to be properly tightened.

**Overheated motor**

If you subjected the winch to continuous operation, the motor may have overheated because this device is not designed for such work. To prevent this, simply operate with breaks and do not allow overheating. If the electric winch has overheated to the point where it cannot be touched, you must stop working immediately, remembering to use a block and wait for it to cool down.

**Device works only in one direction**

The most common reason for this is that the relay box has been damaged or the control remote is faulty. In both situations, you need to replace the relay box or the control unit.

**Drum has stopped rotating but the motor is working normally**

If the drum has stopped working, it is likely that the gearbox has been damaged, and diagnostic testing at an authorized service is required. The issue may also lie with the clutch, which has not been engaged. Therefore, the clutch should be engaged, and if the problem persists, contact an authorized service.
